Nea Moni - Avgonima - Anavatos - Lithi

In the center of the island, 12 km from the town of Chios, is Nea Moni. It's a world famous medieval monument of cultural heritage, protected by UNESCO (1990). Nea Moni stands out for its magnificent mosaic art, made by artists of Istanbul. Together with the St. Luke Monastery in Viotia and the Monastery of Daphni, the mosaics of Nea Moni are the most significant medieval samples of this art in Greece.

After the monastery of Nea Moni, only 16 km from the town of Chios, you wiil find Agvonima. Build on a rocky hill Avgonima is a medieval village with houses built one next to the other constructing a wall. It has with a magnificent view to the Aegean Sea. At Avgonima you will find some restaurants with delicious appetizers to enjoy your meal.

Only 5 km from Avgonyma and throught a wonderful path of olive and pine trees is Anavatos. It's set on a rock at the edge of the cliff, providing a unique sight. It is a place of outstaning beauty, full of history, art and legends. Anavatos is also called the "Mystras" of Chios Island.

On this side of the island, a few klms away from Avgonima, you will find the Elida Beach with its turquoise waters. Elida beach is among the most beautiful and cleanest beaches of Chios.

Finally, our route ends on Lithi, only 23.5 km away from the city of Chios. Lithi is famous for its sandy beach and shallow sea.  You will find some restaurants and taverns along the sea where you can taste fresh fishes.
